Bellydance is an all body, totally invigorating exercise founded on the dances of the Middle East & North Africa. Suitable for women of all ages, sizes & levels of fitness. Benefits include improved posture, flexibility, strength & is great for reinforcing positive body image & reawakening the beautiful woman in yourself. Bring your daughters, mothers, friends & discover this exotic dance in a supportive environment.  You will be dancing in your first class!

Typical workshop or term of classes includes:
Thorough warm up & cool down including Pilates & Yoga exercises;
Breakdown & practise of posture, basic movements, isolations & footwork;
Tribal style Bellydance format using drills, improvisation, choreography &  creative group formations; 
Dynamic middle eastern music, both recorded and live!
Hip scarves to wear & props to play/experiment with.

Every dancer is encouraged to listen to her own body's needs, be patient, take time to enjoy the learning process - we work hard but we laugh a lot!

ATS BELLYDANCE Levels 1&2 - Have fun! Get fit!

Tribal Basics & Beyond suitable for beginners

 Learn to dance by drilling the basics in fun combinations & in Tribal formations.  Start to learn to play zils (finger cymbals) & open your eyes & ears to the amazing music & rhythms of the Middle East.  Later in the term you will be encouraged to refine individual technique by drilling basic steps & their variations in creative combinations. 

ATS BELLYDANCE Levels 3&4 - Continuing students 

& those with performance aspirations 

Class focus is on technique for intermediate & advanced steps, improvising within duet, trio & chorus formations & choreographies using the full range of movements.  Zils are a must in this class.  May also include sword balancing & floorwork. Throughout the term DrumDance repertoire will also be introduced. This format incorporates live drumming, dancers learning to play frame drums & Roving practice within the Tribal format.

This class is very much focussed on posture, technique, improvisational choreography & awareness within the Tribal group. An intermediate or advanced dancer is challenged in every class to further her skills & increase fitness level & stamina. Dancers learn to interpret music & identify rhythms. This class is a full body workout which prepares conscientious students for performance to recorded music as well as live percussion. Warm up & cool down incorporate pilates & yoga exercises & posture. 

DRUMDANCE TRIBAL - ADVANCED WORKSHOP

An inspiring workshop for intermediate & advanced dancers. Dancers are taught original DrumDance Bellydance repertoire & choreography based on the foundations of ATS Bellydance with an emphasis on dancing with live percussion accompaniment. 

BELLYDANCE & DRUMMING - ideal for team building

Madonna & Peter of DrumDance BellyDance offer a unique cultural experience suited to all ages. The workshop is an interactive performance that encourages participants to explore & create their own music & dance experience. Participants are taught basic bellydance & drumming technique within a cooperative tribal group. A session is up to 2 hours duration.

COMBINED DANCE & DRUM WORKSHOP

for bellydancers & drummers

Participants are taught a percussion composition &/or a Bellydance choreography.  The groups then come together to practise & perhaps perform the choreography for an audience or within the workshop venue. 

TRIBAL PERCUSSION

Percussion is the most accessible form of musical activity developing musical skills as well as providing a physical workout.
Depending on skill level participants will -
learn basic technique & rhythms with focus on percussion games & playing together for fun; explore different drumming styles & instruments from the Middle East & North Africa.
Advanced drummers will learn complex & less common rhythms while developing technique relevant to solo, ensemble playing & playing for dancers.
